Which Fabric is Easier to Start Sewing for Beginners?

If you are willing to start practicing sewing or stitching, it’s a great idea. I really appreciate you entering the stitching world. You need basic materials for stitching, then you can start to sew. At first, you should not try all kinds of fabric. You can choose a fabric where sewing is much easier, like cotton. I always prefer my students to start stitching with cotton cloth. Then it can give you much relaxation to control the fabric. You can also cut this fabric without any movement, which gives you more confidence.

Cotton voile:

Cotton clothes are budget-friendly for a new sewist. Apart from this, it can be easily and smoothly managed. You can press this cloth anywhere; it gives you more interest when you overcome your first step. That’s why I always prefer cotton voile. Later, you can make summer clothes or blouses by using cotton.

Poplin:

Poplin is also good for cutting and stitching. If you want something thicker than cotton, then you can choose this kind of fabric. It’s also easy to control for cutting and stitching.

Linen:

Linen is a versatile fabric that fits everywhere. So if you want a fabric that is eco-friendly, then I suggest you take linen, but you have to be more confident to cut and stitch this type of fabric, or you have to attach this fabric with some pins. You can get varieties of prints to stitch with linen; I think it will make you confident to work with linen.

Premium cotton:

If you want to make a shirt or tops and you have enough budget, then you can choose to start with premier cotton. It does not slip when you go for cutting fabric. So I suggest you a thick fabric, which is premier cotton.

Shirting:

At the beginning, you can also work with shirting if you have much confidence in your stitching knowledge because shirting is not more cost-friendly. Though if you want to cut shirting, then you have to attach your clothes using pins to avoid slipping.

Beginners should avoid some kinds of fabrics:

When you are a beginner, you should avoid some kinds of fabric like silk, satin, leather, chiffon, georgette, and other slippery things. If you start with a user-friendly cloth, your training period with stitching will be more relaxing and smooth. Happy stitching.
