Would you like to create a cozy kurta?

You have the option to craft this lovely dress as is, or transform it into a shorter kurta known as a kurti, an anarkali top, or even a plain kamiz dress. Select your preferred fabric and print, then follow our easy steps below to fashion your own unique kurta at home.

Prepare the fabric:

At first you have to prepare a fabric, in which one you want to convert a beautiful dress. If you use cotton fabric, then it can be a raw dyeing one, so its better to wash it. Before starting. Place it in a half-filled bucket of water and add a couple of tablespoons of salt.

Let it soak in the water for 5 to 6 hours to help retain the fabric’s color in the future.

After washing, iron the fabric to avoid your destruction.

To Take the measurement:

sample drawing for marking kurta measurement

To make a dress you have to take the measurement from your body or a dress which is fitted well to you. can write down the exact measurements on it which you get from your old ready one.

Shoulder measurement:

Here I will make a dress for a client whose shoulder length is 13. I fold this part , so I have to half this amount.

Measure the armholes

From shoulder line to down I will mark 7’for armhole.

Measure and note the neck size:

neck size will 3’in width and long is 5’’

Measure the bust size:

Bust size is very important for fitting a dress. Here it is 32, so I have to divide by4 and get 8’ . I will draw this line so I get a center for making an armhole. and draw this shape.

Measure :

Use a measuring tape to measure the old dress’s length or your body.Long:40

Waist measurement:

you have to wrap this tape to a dress or body for waist measurement.

Hip measurement:

Today’s dress’s hip is around 32 so I will take 8 for each part.

Slit kurta:

As i am making a slit kurta , so I have to take a measurement for its length, its 20 and its bottom length will be 23’’.

Cut the dress fabric :

According to the mark and line you can cut the fabric but always  you have to mind it that you keep  1 inch extra for sewing.

Cut the sleeve:

I will make a long sleeve, so I take a piece of cloth which is 22 inch long. I mark its length , the up to 3 inch for armhole.in width it will be 7’’. In the bottom of the sleeve its width will be 8 inches so I divide it with 2, and it will be 4’.

Here’s the measurement list:

Those measurements are marked with inches.

dress length: 40

Shoulder: 13.5

Front neck: 5

Back neck: 5

Bust: 32

Waist:30

Armhole:7

Sleeve long: 21

Sleeve Width:8

Sewing the dress:

At first:

Stitch the shoulders:

With front one side to back one side, front another side to back another side, stitch together. Its gives a structure for a dress.

Sewing the sides:

Sewing  both sides  of this dress is the second step. with front part to back part, sew left and right side of a dress.

Then sewing the slit :

As I am keeping separate from the front part and back part, I have 4 slits and I hem this slit with two lines stitching by machine.

Add sleeve:

after doing the slitting part, I will make sleeves according to the marking. And attach those sleeves with the dress structure.

Neck sewing:

according to my measurement, I will draw a neck design with a hard paper and add fabric to cover this paper and attach it to the body neck.

Stitch the hem:

In the last stage of sewing, I will add .5 inch hem in the bottom of the kurta.

Iron this dress:

Iron my new dress which will give it a different elegant look. So, ready this kurta for wearing.
