Materials You’ll Need:

  • Fabric (cotton or felt works well)
  • Thread
  • Needle (or sewing machine if you prefer)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler and fabric marker (optional)
  • Embellishments (like buttons, ribbons, or fabric paint)

Steps to Make Simple Fabric Bookmarks:

Cut the Fabric:

  • Decide on the size of your bookmarks. A common size is 2 inches by 6 inches, but you can adjust based on your preference.
  • Use a ruler and fabric marker to measure and cut your fabric.

Prepare the Fabric:

Materials Needed:

  • Fabric (cotton, felt, or another fabric of your choice)
  • Scissors or rotary cutter
  • Pinking shears (to create the zigzag edge)
  • Thread and needle (or sewing machine)
  • Ruler and fabric marker (optional)
  • Interfacing (optional, for added stiffness)

If you want the bookmark to be stiffer, cut a piece of interfacing slightly smaller than your fabric piece and iron it onto the back of the fabric according to the interfacing instructions.

Pink the Edges:

Cut the fabric’s edges with pinking shears. This will result in a zigzag design that is both beautiful and helps stop ripping. To preserve the same layout, make sure you slowly trim along the edges.
