How To Sew Edges of Fabric by Hand
Hello, I know you have a question: how do you sew your fabric edges by hand! So I have few solutions for you.
I and one of my hand stitching group like to learn about every little things about sewing. I like to help them; its really funny to spend time stitching. Now I am giving three tips with video how you sew your edges. first of all, you have to
- Prepare your materials: You’ll need fabric, thread (preferably matching the fabric), a needle, scissors, pins (optional), and possibly an iron.
- Cut the fabric. Ensure that the edges you’re sewing are straight and neat. If not, trim them with fabric scissors.
- Thread the needle: Cut a length of thread (about 18-24 inches) and thread it through the eye of the needle. You can tie a knot at the end of the thread to secure it.
- Choose your stitch: There are several stitches you can use to sew the edges of fabric by hand. The choice depends on the fabric and the finish you want. Here are a few common ones:
Blanket stitches:
Some people mention it as an overlock stitch. You can also use those stitches for overlock.
Running stitch:
A simple in-and-out stitch along the edge of the fabric.
Overcast stitch:
It looks like blanket stitch.
Whipstitch:
You can also use whip stitches.
You can watch this video, which helps you learn those stitches.
So, its your turn to start sewing. Remember, practice makes perfect when it comes to hand sewing.
