Now I am going to share the making process of Fit and Flare with V neck dress with you.

Creating a Fit and Flare dress with a V-neck involves several steps. Here’s a basic outline to guide you through the process:

Materials Needed:

  • Fabric of your choice (cotton, linen, satin, etc. I prefer linen for this design.)
  • Pattern paper or a Fit and Flare dress pattern
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Sewing machine (or needle and thread if hand sewing)
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Marking tool (fabric chalk, washable marker)

Steps:

  1. Draw a pattern:

Draw a pattern or picture according to your measurement

  1. Prepare Your Pattern:
    • If you’re using a pattern, lay out your fabric and pattern pieces according to the instructions provided.
    • If you’re drafting your own pattern, you’ll need to measure and draw out the pieces for the bodice, skirt, sleeves (if any), and V-neckline.
  2. Top design: For making a top , you have to take all the measurement from a fitting top, or a blouse.

Here’s the measurement list:

Those measurements are marked with inches.

Top length: 16

Shoulder: 13.5

Front neck: 6.5

  1. Back neck: 3
  2. Bust: 34
  3. Waist:28
  4. Armhole:7
  5. Bust Dart center: 11
Front part of the top
Back part of a top

Mark your pattern: If you prepare a pattern for your top, then it will be easy for you to cut your cloth.

Cut Out the Fabric:

  • Pin your pattern pieces to the fabric and carefully cut around them, ensuring to leave seam allowances as indicated on your pattern or as desired (typically ½ inch to 1 inch).
  1. Assemble the Bodice:
    • Start with the front and back bodice pieces. If your pattern includes darts, sew these first to shape the bodice.
    • Next, join the shoulder seams of the front and back bodice pieces together, right sides facing each other.
    • Finish the neckline:
    • Cut a fabric which looks like a v shape on both sides, and it will be 22/24 inches.
    • Add fusing buckram for giving a strength for your neck, and it looks good
    •  by sewing or finishing the V-neckline according to your pattern’s instructions. You may need to clip the V-shape to ensure it lays flat when turned right side out.
  2. Cut and Attach the Skirt:

1.After finishing the top , it’s time to make the skirt.

draw a pattern for skirt

2.Keep your cloth with 2 fold or 4 fold , then mark to a corner which side is blocked. Then mark where your waist width is matched (28/4).

  1. Bottom line marks will be pointed with the length of your dress. Suppose you want to make a dress with 36 length. As you take 16 for your 16 where 1 is for sewing, and 15 is top length , So you have to mark with 21.

  • With right sides together, pin the bodice to the skirt piece(s). Fit and flare dresses typically have a fitted bodice that flares out into a full skirt.
  • Sew the bodice and skirt pieces together.
  • Then sew the hem of this skirt part.
  • Now the dress is ready to wear. Happy styling.
